Directions:
1.Into a medium bowl, sift
together the flour, salt, and cream of tartar.
2.In a
mixing
bowl
, mix together shortening and sugar.
3. Add egg whites, unbeaten,
alternately with sifted flour, salt and cream of
tartar which have been sifted together, beating
well.
4. Add buttermilk all at once and
then add vanilla; beat until well blended and smooth
5. Add baking soda and water
combination; blend until light and fluffy.
6.. Pour into 3 greased and
floured 8-inch
cake
pans.
7. Bake in 350° oven 20 to 25 minutes.
